I managed to obtain a new mobile phone number, for the US locality I’m in!
It was funny, when I got that number, the person who sold the sim card to me told me that 1861 was the year the first US civil war occurred, and thus was a cool way to remember my number. I still don’t remember it yet!
Here are some weird things I noticed about buying a sim card in the USA:
- It is cheaper to buy a sim card with a crappy (i.e. very basic) phone then to buy the sim card by itself! The sim card and phone device as a package cost me $10, with additional costs for the plan you choose to put the sim card upon.
- A sim card by itself costs within the region of $19.99.
- Unlike the UK, the US charges you to receive calls and texts from abroad. Hence my telling you in my text that it is cheaper to text me, as each text I send or receive is 25 cents.
- So why has no-one texted me yet!!!!????? Haha, I’m just joking- email and Skype is much, much cheaper for everyone all around, so either email me a letter, or let me know what times you’re available to go on Skype via email or text.
Apart from that, you’ll be pleased to know that I had my first work out yesterday afternoon! I did half an hour of cardio on the elliptical machine (it’s that walking gliding machine thingy), then I worked my triceps and chest muscles out, and then I did half an hour of cardio on the recumbent bike machine. I have great stamina and lower body strength, but my upper body is pretty weak- not impressive at all! So, apparently, Winston is going to help me make my upper body stronger, and was encouraging me a lot. Today, we’re doing the Kenpo X program today. I have no idea what that is, but it sounds vigorous! And is going to last about 50 minutes too long, lol!
I was given some items by Winston's mum as either a random gift, or an early Christmas present- I’m not sure which, as she told me on Skype they were for me anyway. So now I’m the owner of a large gold and canvas bag smothered with the Michael Kors logo. It looks kinda like this but with light coloured letters on a darker background- click on the hyperlink to see: http://www.michaelkors.com/store/catalog/productImagesPopup.jhtml?selected=mg&item=prod12100010&pageProductId=prod12100010&yB=mg_prod12100010&mwsInfo=enlarge
The other things I got were a 3 minibag/purse series of Russian doll concept Coach purses, a charm bracelet, a mini jade pendent, and a tiny religious bracelet that is kept in a purse or wallet rather then on the wrist. I say Russian doll concept in regards to the Coach stuff as the smallest purse fits into the medium sized purse, and so on.
Other things I’ve noticed:
- Winston did not know what a kettle was. We finally got a basic electric kettle, so now I can have my tumeric drink easily every morning (I ingest 1 tsp tumeric, ½ tsp cocoa, and 1 tsp non-dairy creamer in hot water!). Previous to that, I had to use the microwave.
- Meat tastes better here, but if you have lean steak and are grilling it, it helps to use a little bit of oil to retain moisture. I made the mistake of using a garam masala dry rub on the meat destined for the grill, without using any oil at all. It was quite dry and a bit chewy, but tasted better when cooked again with a savoury sauce of my own concoction!
- It takes longer for me to dry and style my hair here. The water is soft, so my hair is well conditioned and my skin is better for it (eczema patch on my left leg is all but gone!), but if you’re going to wave or curl hair, give yourself a bit more time to do so.
- Fresh vegetables are definitely a bit more expensive in the supermarket, and I have never seen so many bread loaf varieties before. I wish there was a local market here but hey, what can I do? :P
- Having a kindle reading light is useful. Winston bought me one yesterday, so now my kindle package is complete. E-books are also useful when you’re doing cardio, as you can prop the kindle on the machine and read easily while working out!
