24 Oct 2011- Kenpo, Tajima and Misfits

I did the kenpo session with Winston on Saturday, and it was actually one hour long, as opposed to the 50 minutes I stated in my previous email. It’s a session from the P90X program, which Ryan should be familiar with, Belle! There’s lots of side kicks and front kicks and horse stance and punching, etc. I thought it a bit boring because the music didn’t have a deep beat and…okay, I was getting tired, and Winston pushed me gently by saying ‘Good job!’ so I carried on. I got a bit grumpy near the end because it felt like the session was taking so long, but I completed it!

Sunday was a nice lazy day with no exercise session but today, I did a half an hour program on the elliptical machine. I was able to read my kindle throughout the whole session so I didn’t realize I was working quite hard.

Later that Sunday we visited cousin Burt and Yala at their house and chilled out a bit before eating out at Tajima. It was a Japanese restaurant, and we ate the following:

STARTERS- marinated fried chicken pieces with light seasoned mayonnaise, and breaded oysters with a plum sweet sauce.

MAINS- I had one large portion of udon noodles in a strong miso broth with marinated pork pieces and slices of chicken balls.

Winston had a large portion of vegetable ramen with slices of fish balls in a light miso broth.
Burt and Yala ate something tasty too, but I didn’t check to see what they had.
Then we all shared a big hotpot that contained slices of bacon, some fresh prawns, some mince meat balls, lots of vegetables, bean thread noodles, fresh tofu, and mussels.

I was quite stuffed, but there’s always room for…

DESSERT- I ate a medium portion of tempura icecream, which is a ball of vanilla icecream dipped in tempura batter and quickly deep fried.

However the tempura outside was a bit flabby, so I didn’t eat it all, and Winston shared the dessert with me. Burt and Yala had a banana and strawberry cocoa deep fried spring roll with vanilla icecream.

The food was yummy, and I was definitely satisfied!

It looks like this might be quite a food-orientated email so I’m going to continue in the same vein by saying I’ve been eating a lot of fibre because I’ve been eating a lot of brown rice, and my bowels are regular, hehe! If it was more affordable, I’d eat brown rice in London all the time, because it tastes really nutty and works well with spicy and flavour rich accompaniments like garam masala minced beef with asparagus, baby corn and chopped tomatoes (aka Masala Kheema).

I cooked Masala Kheema yesterday night for dinner, and it tasted so lovely that I had to avoid eating too much of it. Too moreish! Winston told me to drain the mince before I added the rest of the ingredients to cut down on excessive fat, so I guess it was more healthy then usual Indian curries.

Anyhow, the rest of the whole evening was coloured by me watching the entire two series of Misfits, a British superhero series with unconventional heroes (i.e. youths that all had asbos, lol!). It is such a great program, and I can’t wait until the third series comes out on October 30th. Hopefully, I’ll be able to watch it. If you can, you should watch it before then!
